Recognizing Expertise

At the dePaul School, our use of evidence-based approaches to reading and learning in the classroom has rightfully earned us the reputation as the local experts in the field of dyslexic education. Now, there is a way to formally recognize that our teachers have the knowledge and skills to teach individuals with dyslexia to read.
The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) is beginning to certify teachers through their partnership with The Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI), an organization that they established to further the use of evidence-based approaches to reading and learning.  The purpose of these credentials is to appropriately assess a professional’s ability to provide the necessary remediation for individuals with dyslexia and offer information to the public to choose qualified professionals.
The dePaul School has set a goal of all our reading teachers becoming certified as Structured Literacy Teachers through this IDA initiative by December 31, 2018. We are proud and excited to have the opportunity to promote this objective and nationally recognized level of teacher professionalism and expertise to our parents and our community!
