Lower School (Grades 1-4)

From Frustration to Confidence
At dePaul, we create a nurturing, structured environment where academic setbacks are reframed as opportunities for growth.
For many students, Lower School is where a real shift begins, where they stop seeing themselves as “behind” and start seeing themselves as learners with real potential. Many of our students arrive having experienced failure or shame in prior school settings. Here, they find structure, belonging, and a plan.
Our Lower School program is designed to build a rock-solid foundation in reading, writing, and math, while also nurturing the social-emotional and executive functioning skills that lead to independence. Every lesson is purposeful. Every teacher is trained in how students with dyslexia learn best. And every child is known.

Cornerstone Elements of Our Program

Personalized, Skill-based Small Group Instruction
Each student is placed in small groups based on skill level, not grade, allowing them to gain confidence and make steady progress at their own pace with focused, responsive instruction.

Executive Functioning Skill Development
Time management, task planning, and self-monitoring are purposefully built into daily routines, supporting independence, organization, and long-term learning success.

Progress Monitoring and Parent Communication
Each student’s growth is closely tracked through formal assessments and daily observations. Families receive regular updates, and teachers collaborate to adjust instruction as needed.
