Community Dyslexia Screenings
Don’t Wait for a Diagnosis. Start With a Conversation.
For many families, dePaul’s Dyslexia Screening Program is the first real moment of clarity. It’s where questions begin to find answers, and hope starts to take shape.
Why Screening Matters
Dyslexia often goes unrecognized for years, especially in bright, creative students who find ways to compensate. Early signs are frequently misunderstood as laziness, inattention, or behavioral issues. That’s why screening is so critical and why it’s a cornerstone of our mission.
“If only we’d known sooner.”
We hear this every day.
Our goal is to make sure fewer families have to say it.

What to Expect From a Screening
- A short, research-based intake assessment led by a trained dePaul screener
- A confidential, strengths-focused conversation about your child’s learning
- Immediate, same-day results with clear next steps
- Guidance on whether a full evaluation is recommended and how to pursue it
- Referrals to trusted professionals, resources, or programs (including tutoring and summer support)
Screenings are appropriate for students ages 5+ and are designed for families at any stage, whether you’ve just noticed something’s off or you’ve been trying to find support for years.
Who Benefits From Screening?
- Students who struggle with reading, writing, or spelling
- Children who are bright but underperforming in school
- Kids who are frustrated, anxious, or beginning to dislike school
- Families who’ve tried tutoring or IEPs but still feel stuck
- Anyone who suspects dyslexia but isn’t sure what to do next
You don’t need a diagnosis to get help. You just need a starting point.
We can be that for you.
